Bio American Blues Scene calls Debra Devi “one of today’s top female blues/rock guitarists,” adding, “No doubt you’ll include Bonnie Raitt, Samantha Fish, Susan Tedeschi and Ana Popovic. If you don’t include Debra Devi, your list is not complete.” Debra Devi plays “dreamy blues-rockers and blistering psychedelic jams” (Relix) flavored with her soulful voice and expressive guitar playing. Devi’s live EP, Jamification Station Vol. 1, captures her Jersey City NJ band at full throttle. The EP reached #5 on the Relix/ Top 30 Radio Chart, staying on the chart for three months. Gov’t Mule bassist Jorgen Carlsson joined Devi on her previous EP A Zillion Stars Overhead. Produced by Devi and mixed by Sylvia Massy, Americana Highways calls their collaboration “exciting and mesmerizing.” Devi is in demand at blues festivals, opening for Joe Louis Walker, Greg Sover and more top blues artists. At venues, she has opened for Ana Popovic, Joan Osborne, Jesse Malin, Sarah Shook and the Disarmers, Michael Glabicki of Rusted Root, and Marshall Crenshaw. Live, Devi leads “a fierce guitar-driven band equally adept at soulful rockers and sprawling jams” (NY Music Daily). She endorses Homestead Amplifiers, which supplies amps to Gov’t Mule, Jimmy Herring and Susan Tedeschi. Devi is also the author of The Language of the Blues: From Alcorub to Zuzu (foreword by Dr. John), which won the ASCAP Deems Taylor Award. She gives her “Language of the Blues” talk at festivals, universities, theaters and venues.
